L. Sempronius Pitio, 148 BC. Denarius (Subaeratus, 19 mm, 3.40 g, 2 h), a contemporary plated imitation from an irregular mint. PITIO Head of Roma to right, wearing winged helmet, triple pendant earring and pearl necklace; to right, X (mark of value). Rev. L•SEMP / ROMA (in linear frame) The Dioscuri, each holding spear, on horseback galloping right; above their heads, two stars. Cf. Babelon (Sempronia) 2, Crawford 216/1, RBW 926 and Sydenham 402 (for prototype). Puncture on the reverse exposing the bronze core and with light scratches, otherwise, very fine.

From the Joseph Markowitz Collection (1897-1981), brought to Israel in 1949 and kept in the family ever since.
